FAQs

HOW CAN I PURCHASE BEANSAFE® PRODUCTS?

Beansafe containers are available at a growing number of food stores and emporiums around the United States. You can also contact info@beansafe.com to order BeanSafe® products directly.

DOES BEANSAFE® MAKE PRODUCTS FOR THE COMMERCIAL MARKET?

BeanSafe’s advanced technology was so well received by the coffee trade that the company added a line of five-gallon containers for coffee roasters, wholesales and retailers. The large containers, which feature the same Pressure Release Valves as the consumer canisters, can be used for shipping coffee and storing coffee awaiting sale. Note that containers are refillable and reusable. The polypropylene containers are also recyclable.

HOW LARGE ARE BEANSAFE® CANISTERS? HOW MUCH DO THEY WEIGH?

BeanSafe canisters for the home are 6 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter - large enough to fit one pound of coffee beans and then some. The canisters come in stainless steel, ceramic or polypropylene. The stainless steel canisters weigh 9 oz., the ceramic 2 lbs. 4 oz., and the polypropylene 6 oz.

HOW LONG WILL BEANSAFE® CANISTER LAST?

The main moving parts on BeanSafe® are the locking mechanisms which seal the top of the canister. The mechanisms on BeanSafe® have been tested and endured more than 400,000 repetitions of the open/close cycle.

CAN THE POLYPROPYLENE CANISTERS AFFECT THE TASTE OF THE COFFEE?

Canisters made of food-grade polypropylene are chemically stable and safe for long-term storage. Note that they are BPA-free. (BPA or Bisphenol A is a plastic that may have negative health effects. Some jurisdictions have banned its use in baby bottles.)

CAN I WASH BEANSAFE® CANISTERS IN AN AUTOMATIC DISHWASHER?

Yes. All parts of BeanSafe® canisters - whether in the stainless steel, ceramic or polypropylene version - are dishwasher-safe.

IS THE BEANSAFE® CANISTER ALSO USEFUL FOR STORING PRODUCTS OTHER THAN COFFEE?

Beansafe® will also protect teas, spices, herbs, potpourri and other aromatics and foodstuffs.

HOW DOES THE BEANSAFE® ONE-WAY VALVE WORK?

The BeanSafe® Pressure Release Valve uses a combination of a silicone membrane and a perfectly round glass ball, which together permit CO2 to be released when the pressure inside the container (from CO2 emitted by the coffee) reaches a sufficient level. At the same time, the one-way valve does not permit air and gases from outside to enter the container. Unlike some other valves, the BeanSafe® Pressure Release Valve never requires cleaning, maintenance or replacement.

CAN I USE BEANSAFE® TO STORE GROUND COFFEE AS WELL AS WHOLE COFFEE BEANS?

Yes, and BeanSafe® will keep your ground coffee fresher than any other device for storing ground coffee. Keep in mind, though, that we, like virtually all coffee lovers, encourage you to grind your beans just before brewing the beverage.
